Has this just been happening to me a lot recently?…..
I will be chatting to someone on the phone for a while before I suddenly realize that I’ve been put on speakerphone and there is someone else (partner, child, etc.) in the background within earshot of the phone call. My immediate reaction is embarrassment. Did I say or do something that I wouldn’t have, had I known the other party was listening? I guess I didn’t realize how much I naturally censor what I am saying depending on who I am talking to.
Maybe it’s strange of me, but I’m starting to think a cardinal phone call rule may need to be established, whereby one must announce: “you’re on speakerphone!”
